This project was heavily inspired by a JRPG video game I've been loving in recent years called Twisted Wonderland. More specifically, there was one limited-time event that I loved so much called "The Glorious Masquerade". Having just played through the event when making this, I was inspired to make a poster for a masquerade ball. I did include subtle references to the game in the design, but I didn't want to rely on the imagery of the game. I wanted the poster to stand strong on its own, but also that a fellow Twisted Wonderland fan would be able to spot the references. The images I used were cut out from several magazines.
Fire was an important motif in "The Glorious Masquerade", so I leaned in on the fire aspects for the design: Blazing Passion, Ignite your passion, and lots of reds and oranges. I did luck out in finding these images in the magazines, but they were perfect for conveying the fire theme.
Along the left side, I included the lyrics to "Make a Wish", the Glorious Masquerade's special song sung by the characters. This song came as a shock to the entire fanbase because a full song with lyrics was a rarity at the time, especially for a limited-time event, but it quickly captured the hearts of the fanbase (myself included). "Make a Wish" had quite the grip on me, so I knew I had to include the lyrics. Maybe the song would play at this fictitious masquerade ball. I lined up the first line of the lyrics with the top of the woman's head, and adjusted the spacing accordingly so the last line would end just before the top of the fire.
Because this is a physical poster, all the writing is my own handwriting. I wrote in cursive for the majority of the text to convey a fancier feeling. The lyrics are not in cursive for legibility purposes, since they are so small.
I also created a mockup for the poster. It would hang somewhere in a city for passerby to see.
